Who Are We?
Who are the Christian Churches / Churches of Christ? We are a Non-Denominational,
locally governed body of believers committed to Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior. We are a New Testament Church, finding the authority for
rule and practice in the writings of the New Testament, particularly the
Acts and Epistles as these bodies of writings deal with the history, growth
and conduct of the church. We speak where the Scriptures speak and are
silent where Scriptures are silent. We seek fellowship with all who
profess Jesus as Lord and who are willing to comply with the clear teachings
of the New Testament. We seek for unity in essentials, freedom in matters
of opinion, and love in all things. We are not the only Christians but
seek to be Christian only.
What Do We Believe?
-
Baptism: the word "baptize" is a Greek word
meaning, "immerse, dip, or plunge." It is our practice to baptize only
those who have believed in Jesus Christ and who have repented (changed
their mind about) of sin. We do not baptize infants.
-
Communion: we practice observance of the Lord's
Supper every Lord's Day. He did not dictate frequency, but said that
as often as His followers shared the meal, to do so in remembrance of Him.
It becomes no more common to do so each Lord's Day than does our gathering
together, singing hymns, praying or listening to a sermon.
-
Music: We believe that the New Testament clearly
allows the use of instrumental music.
-
Elders: The New Testament has clearly indicated
that there are to be qualified men, above reproach, who are appointed by
the congregation to serve as Elders. Synonymous terms are: Bishop,
Presbyter, Pastor (shepherd) and Overseer.
-
Deacons: The word means "servant" and the
New Testament indicates that qualified men, above reproach, are to be set
apart by the congregation to serve in various ways.
-
The Bible: Both Old and New Testaments are
fully inspired. The Old Testament and its Laws have been supreceded
by the New Testament, in which we find all we need for life, Godliness
and Church authority.
-
Jesus Christ: He is the Virgin Born and Only
Begotten Son of God. He is the unique human being in Whom dwelt the
fullness of Deity. He hung on a cross, choosing His own moment to die;
He was dead, and buried in a borrowed tomb. He arose, physically
and literally, from the grave on the Lord's Day morning. He ascended to
Heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father. He will return
again to receive His own and will reign forever as King of Kings. His is
the only Name by which we may obtain salvation.
-
Heaven and Hell: We
believe in a literal, eternal heaven for the saved and a literal hell for
the condemned.
